Collection: Kaleidoscopes
Kaleidoscopes is a retrospective collection of works created during the Covid-19 lockdown year. The pieces are observational studies captured through a toy kaleidoscope that I attached to my camera.
Confined within the secluded space of our beach house, the kaleidoscope became a metaphor for captivity — a fragmented view of the world during lockdown. New perspectives emerged, placing us in a state of contemplation about the status quo of our existence on this planet. The political turmoil, face masks, policing, loss of freedom, and deprivation of our usual comforts placed us in a space of tunnel vision. Fragmented realities began to take the shape of something new — some things concealed, others illuminated — the future broken into pieces that shimmered with messages of both hope and despair. The collection was created over just a few days but only gained meaning for me years later, leading to the release of this retrospective body of work.
